Making ‘things’ with AI.

This is where I (Cheryl) test what AI can do in creative hands. Rigorously, honestly, and very much in public.

The humans (and the not-so-humans)

These are the character elements I use the most in my AI work/experiments. Think of them as my standing cast.

Notes from the lab

Process notes, half-baked ideas, and things I'm figuring out in public.

Prompt craft

Prompting for emotion

Describing a scene gets you a scene. Describing a feeling gets you something alive. It took me a while to figure that out.

My current AI toolstack — and what I actually reach for

What I thought I would use versus what I actually reach for. And why every tool in my stack has its own personality.

All thoughts

Hi, I'm Cheryl.

Senior creative director. Fifteen years building brand systems at scale across Prime Video, HBO Max, Apple TV+, Paramount+, Crunchyroll and more, across ten markets.

FlashAfro.com is my R&D lab. A place to experiment openly, document what I'm learning, and make things because I'm curious about what's possible.

Some people might be asking where the 'FlashAfro' name came from. Well... it started with Flash cartoons. FlashAfro was my online pen name back in the day. Back when I use to make little flash cartoons (RIP Flash 😭) mostly for myself but also for the fun flash animation community that I found myself joining. There were no briefs, no clients, just me playing with some cool tools and seeing what could happen. That's still how I work today. Play is where the good stuff begins. Learning through play has always been the way that I broaden my creative skillset and these AI tools feel exactly like that to me. A new playground for my fully eccentric self.
